Day Reconstruction Method
An exciting new tool to collect data about happiness is the Day Reconstruction Method, originally proposed by Daniel Kahneman. In our happiness research, we have developed a unique new way to catch momentary happiness and engagement through the DRM. With this tool, participants are asked to reconstruct the day and indicate which activities they engaged in. Participants also indicate how long they participated in each activity, and what their level of happiness, engagement, self-concordance, etc. during each activity was. In this way, we trace happiness at the level of activities engaged in during the day, for several days. By linking the happiness and engagement experiences to causes and consequences, we can test our models at the within-person, momentary level.
